Victoria Kuzmina

I'm Victoria from Moscow, Russia. This is my second semester at AAS Fashion Marketing Online program. Firts semester was incredibly interesting, challenging and fun. I totally loved estudying online. I'm working full-time. so this method of education is just made for me!
I'm web analyst at La Redoute Russia (Russian branch of well-known French online fashion store), but my prime interests include marketing (as it's more challenging, yet creative) and merchandising.
I'm currently posting from beautiful Alassio - small sea resort in Savona province, Liguria region, Italy. Here is the view I'd like to see each and every day... but as I'm a child of big city (I was born in crazy Moscow and still live there) I know that I'll be bored with it in a week or two :)

Have a great day everyone!

Brittany Boehm

Week Two:
Tickled Pink:
“Most remarkable children I ever saw. Which is which?...Amy put a blue ribbon on the boy and a pink on the girl, French fashion, so you can always tell.” (Louisa May Alcott, Little Women, Chapter 28) The connotation that girls are associated with the color pink dates much farther back then Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, rather as early as the 17th century the color pink was associated with things such as rosy cheeks, flowers, Valentine’s Day, love, etc.; all things commonly associated with women. The 17th century is also the first time the pigment, pink was created by mixing red and white pigments together, (Collins Dictionary).

The pink pigment is most commonly found in flowers when related to nature. Peonies and roses are two flowers that are perfect examples of the color pink personified. As flowers are often given as a symbol of love, so did the color pink become associated with the emotion, love. Though, some cultures have other meanings for the color pink as well. In Japan, the color pink is actually associated with masculinity and in Persia the color pink is often referenced when talking about people’s faces, (www.sensationalcolor.com/color-messages-meanings/color-meaning-symbolism-psychology/all-about-the-color-pink.html, 09/06/2012. But when I think of the pink, I think babies; girl babies.

Louisa May Alcott’s description of the differentiation between the twin babies is so classic to me. When I think about girls I think pink and when I think of baby boys, I think blue. So while this may be a bit skewed, I believe the best place to use the color pink in design is in a baby girl’s bedroom. While the worst place to use pink is in a baby boy’s bedroom. After all the pink ribbon is the universal symbol for breast cancer which affects 90 percent more females than males.

Week One:

Hello Everyone!

Just a quick hello from the land of ten thousand lakes. Yes, that's right, I am participating in our class from Shoreview, Minnesota. I live and work in the Twin Cities, I actually am in Consumer Relations at International Dairy Queen. This position is great, it allows me the freedom to work and go to school all while enjoying Dairy Queen's delicious soft-serve for free!

I am currently a part-time student of Parsons Fashion Marketing AAS program. The decision to go back to school; I have a Bachelor's in Psychology from Bethel University, took a couple of years to come together. I am however, so thankful I decided to pursue fashion studies at Parsons. Our classes are so fun and completely different from my undergraduate work. I sometimes feel like a fish out of water, it has taken me a bit of time to embrace and become intune with my artistic side. So please bare with me! :)

This class excites me, I love colour! My mother always encouraged me to become a make-up artist because I was always playing with all things color. My favorite is pink. I have a rudimentary understanding and background in color, so I am excited to learn lots throughout this semester!

Laurie Fleming

I am a part-time AAS Fashion Design Student.  I used to be really computer savvy.  Now with the day and age of social networking is sooooo vast.  I feel like a little guppie in really big pond.  I have never blogged in my life. So bare with me.  Im sure Ill get it eventually.
I live here in Brooklyn, NY.  I have been in NYC for 11 years.  By way of California, by way of Ohio.  I am very adventurous.  I moved here knowing no one.  I am a single mother of two, a 17 y/o and a 4 y/o.  That little one she is the star of the show.  Everyday with her is that "adventure" she is a "diva".
My interests a vast.  I love fashion.  I would love to own my own business someday. Catering to private clientele.  And later down the line expand to a more commercial arena.  My muse is my daughter.  I would love to  later dibble in children clothing and accessories.  I want to travel the world.  I realized that I love to cook.  I love trying new foods from other countries.  I love to entertain.
Here is an art project that she did in preschool.  I thought it was so beautiful. I almost by passed it thinking it was something really interesting until I realized this is pretty intricate for a 4 year old.
In truth its actually: An inkblot pattern similar to those used in the Rorschach inkblot test, a test used in psychology to determine underlying personality structure.

Introduction Monica Ramirez

Hey everyone,
my name is Monica Ramirez and this is my second semester of Fashion Marketing online. I live in Munich Germany but I come originally from Bogotá, Colombia. My background is in Graphic Design and I became aware of my deeper interest in fashion marketing trough a graduation project for my program in which I created a bikini brand (photo). My dream is to some day open a store were I can sell and market my own products.

Looking forward to increase my knowledge about color!

Tracie Intro

Hi, I am AAS Fashion Marketing, 3rd semester but I'm only able to take a few classes at a time as I have a full time business (LLC, unrelated to fashion). This is an image of a fabric I collected for Textile Survey class and I had a question about the type of weave. I wanted Professor Webber to see it up close, so I took this image with a photomicroscope. My orientation in the fashion industry is definitely around textiles.

I am particularly interested in how people 'see' things (or don't see things) in general, and in how they see color specifically, so I'm curious about what all will be revealed in this class.

I live in Pennsylvania just outside Gettysburg. My access to this blog seems to be hit and miss so fingers crossed getting through this semester!

Tim Capalbo

Hi,  my name is Tim.  I am a part-time AAS Interior Design Student at Parsons.  I hold a BFA degree in Theatre and have been making a living as a Production Manager for live entertainment events and performances for the past 15+ years in the greater NYC area.  I am considering opening my own Theater Consulting business in the coming years - hence the degree in Interior Design.

To the left is a picture I scanned of one of the places I have worked in the past.  Can anyone guess this location...?

Hello my name is...

Jacqueline Hastings.

This is a combination introduction post/show I know how to upload images. If, in fact, the above has successfully uploaded! I'm sure everyone will be reading loads of these intros over the next few days, so the most memorable thing about me is probably that I live in the Cayman Islands. I've been studying in the AAS Fashion Marketing Online program part-time since last Fall. During the day I work as an auditor of hedge funds, which I think is, probably needless to say, a fair bet less scintillating than fashion. Before Cayman, I lived in Boston, and my undergrad is from Holy Cross, outside of Boston.

Looking forward to learning more about color!

Welcome to Color Theory online!

This artist creates drawings out of objects...many of which are food. Take a look at his work and think about ways you can draw with objects you use on a daily basis. The picture below is made from slices of burnt wonder bread. More here

Professor V's Teaching tools

Hello everyone,

I want to start this semester with a few important ideas that I hope will inspire you in this class.

- You are not expected to have any previous knowledge about color thory, painting or drawing. In this class you should channel all your unknown knowledge/ lack of experience into excitement and curiosity.
- Transform any fear/doubt/embarrassment expressed when facing a challenge into productivity. Jump into the assignment and do not be affraid to make a mistake...there are no mistakes.
- Everyday I want to look at the world around you with new eyes. Look for color, light and form. Challenge your mind by asking questions related to what you see.
- The point of this class is not tomaking a good picture, this is about the process, the discovery and the learning process. You work will transform without you even knowing it.
- Hand work in on time!
- Ask me or your classmates if you have questions.
- Do not give up! You may have to do assignments several times before you get them to look right. Thats ok!
- Never throw anything out! I want to see the stages you go through while you work.

Inspiring artist: Brooke Inman

Brooke Inman uses color very frequently in her work. Take a look at all of her projects and think about how color influences the objectives in her work:
